Play ball! Oh, and by the way, duck!!

April 1, 2008

Ever since the unspeakable events of Sunday, Feb. 3, we Boston sports fans have turned our lonely eyes to our beloved Red Sox. It's been a long, cold winter. Thank God the boys are back. But to all of you who are concocting phony reasons to sneak out of work and head over to Fenway, we here at Exhibit A have a word of warning: fans who fight over foul balls with the vigor of a fat guy going after the last nacho on the plate should do so at their own risk. Because if you get hurt by a foul ball,... More

State of Mississippi may prohibit eateries from serving fat people

April 1, 2008

The Mississippi Legislature is considering a bill that would bar restaurants from serving obese people. House Bill No. 282, sponsored by Rep. W.T. Mayhall Jr., would revoke the health department licenses of restaurants that repeatedly sell food to customers with an excessive body-mass index. Mayhall says overweight Mississippians are driving up the state’s Medicaid costs. “No one’s doing anything about it,” he complains. “They just keep on going to the buffets and eating.” However,... More

Massive police response triggered by low-rise trousers

April 1, 2008

More than 30 patrol cars, a police helicopter and two canine units responded to a Palm Beach, Fla.-area shopping mall after a college student was sighted wearing baggy, sagging pants. Frantz Leger, 20, a business major at Florida State University, had previously been asked to leave the mall because of his baggy pants, so his reappearance amounted to trespassing, police said. Leger’s family questioned the charges. A brawl then ensued, which resulted in the arrests of Leger’s mother,... More

‘Naked’ cowboy claims blue M&M violated his trademark rights

April 1, 2008

A man who regularly plays guitar in New York City’s Times Square wearing only a cowboy hat, boots and underwear is suing the manufacturer of M&Ms for $6 million for dressing an animated blue M&M in a similar outfit in an advertising video. Robert Burck, who calls himself “the Naked Cowboy,” claims Mars, Inc., violated his trademark rights by allowing the blue M&M to wear similar tighty-whiteys without compensating him. “My initial response was like, ‘Wow... More

Mayor charged with felony dog-napping

April 1, 2008

The mayor of Alice, Texas, is facing felony charges after she agreed to look after her vacationing neighbors’ dog and then kept it, telling them that it had died. TIPS for fighting a parking ticket

April 1, 2008

Another one! Burning on your windshield like a scarlet letter, securely fastened under your windshield wiper sits the telltale sign: You’ve been accused of pushing your luck on the meter, ignoring those street-cleaning signs or parking too close to the crosswalk. Are you innocent? Want to fight that parking ticket? There are ways. But don’t go after the traffic enforcement officer. Instead, chase down the appeal rules in the city or town where you got the ticket. 1. What do you mean,... More

The law of the ballpark: what may be foul play at Fenway

April 1, 2008

david.frank at exhibitAnews.com While most Red Sox fans know the rules of the game inside out, few are up to speed on the rules of the ballpark. Here’s what every ticket-holder should know before passing through Fenway’s turnstiles: You have an extra ticket to the game that you want to sell. While it is illegal for a non-licensed broker to resell a ticket for profit, there is nothing wrong with unloading one at face value. That issue was determined in 2000 by a federal judge... More

Avoid tax-time terrors by knowing what’s new (or just new to you)

April 1, 2008

It would be difficult to imagine a more self-sufficient guy than Brian. Born and raised in Will Hunting’s own Southie and its uniquely Bostonian grit, he is a man who keeps his own counsel. Carburetor problem? Pop it — Brian’s under the hood. Grass needs a mow? No help needed, thank you; that’s literally Brian’s turf. And when it comes to tax time? He … well, as he puts it: “Oh, no — nah, pfft. We got a guy.” Brian’s got a guy. “A... More
