Woman Sues for Emotional Distress Because She’s No Longer Blonde
October 9, 2008
A Connecticut woman filed a lawsuit claiming she suffers from severe emotional problems because she’s no longer blonde.
Charlotte Feeney of Stratford says she bought a box of L’Oreal hair color to touch up her blonde tresses, but the box contained the wrong dye and turned her into a brunette. She says she can never get her hair back to its “naturally blonde” state, and as a result she has been placed on antidepressant medications by her doctor.
“I was mentally and physically in shock,” Feeney stated in her court filing against L’Oreal. “I was sick to my stomach, I had headaches, I don’t like myself, I stay home more than ever in my life, I wear hats most of the time.”
“Also,” Feeney said, “blondes do get more attention than brunettes; of course, emotionally, I miss that.”
But Superior Court Judge Richard Gilardi rejected the lawsuit, claiming Feeney couldn’t prove the box contained the wrong dye. Feeney “submitted no facts, no opinions and no standards to substantiate … the allegations,” he stated.
