Politician Accused of Bouncing Checks for Voodoo Curse
October 13, 2008
A county commissioner in Georgia has been accused of writing two bad checks to a South Carolina voodoo high priestess in return for a ritual designed to cause a Democratic primary opponent to develop cancer or have a car accident.
George Ann Mills of Blythewood, S.C., claims Cobb County Commissioner Annette Kesting wrote her two checks totaling $3,000 and they both bounced. She also says she never performed the ritual because it’s not something that “a true priest or priestess of voodoo” would do.
Kesting calls the claims “ridiculous” and adds, “I don’t understand what’s going on.”
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the allegations, but spokesman John Bankhead said that if a crime was committed, it appears it was in South Carolina. On the other hand, Jennifer Timmons, a spokeswoman for that state’s Law Enforcement Division, said the agency’s legal counsel was unaware of any South Carolina law against soliciting a voodoo curse.
