Air Passenger Arrested for Hiding Pigeons in His Pants

February 5, 2009

A man who flew from the Middle East to Australia with a pair of pigeons hidden in his pants was arrested after alert Customs officials discovered the concealed birds.

Customs agents first became suspicious when they found two eggs in a vitamin bottle in the 23-year-old’s luggage, said investigations manager Richard Janeczko.

Further investigation revealed seeds in the man’s money belt and an undeclared eggplant.

Although the pigeons are not an endangered species, the man faces up to 10 years in jail and a $70,000 fine, in addition to whatever harm the pigeons might have caused inside his pants during the Dubai-to-Melbourne flight.
