CVS Sued for $9 Trillion Over Return of Duffel Bag
February 6, 2009
A woman who sued CVS for nine trillion dollars because it wouldn’t exchange a $31 duffel bag for some makeup, lipstick and perfume has had her lawsuit rejected by a federal court in Rhode Island.
A CVS manager refused to accept the duffel bag because the woman didn’t have a receipt, she had purchased it more than 90 days earlier, and the bag was “all torn up.”
The woman, Amanda U. Ajuluchuku-Levy, called the police, claiming she was a victim of disability discrimination.
She then filed a federal lawsuit, claiming that CVS “intentionally subjected [her] to systematic acts of terrorism by the unnecessary badgering because [the company] would rather obsess about nothing.” She demanded $9 trillion in compensation, or roughly the equivalent of the gross national product of China, India, England, Germany and Canada combined.
“The Court has little difficulty concluding that this action is frivolous,” a federal magistrate wrote.
