Man Is Jailed for Whistling Addams Family Theme Song
February 17, 2009
A man has been sent to prison for harassing his neighbors for four years by whistling the theme song from “The Addams Family” every time he saw them.
Michael Sharpe, 68, testified that neighbor Leopold Wroble “very nearly succeeded” in his effort to “destroy our lives,” and that his wife was so upset by the whistling that she started losing her hair.
At trial, Wroble claimed that he was merely whistling at his dog. But a judge disagreed after watching police videotape showing him whistling as the couple entered and left their house.
“If something happens on an ongoing basis and goes on and on and on, eventually it reaches the stage of being absolutely intolerable,” argued prosecutor Michael Treharne.
Wroble was sentenced to 20 weeks in jail.
